Compressus MEDxConnect™ System Delivers On The Promise Of PACS With Integration Of Disparate Imaging And Information Systems

Company to Showcase Enhancements to MEDxConnect. System at SCAR

AUSTIN, Texas, April 28, 2006 . Compressus, Inc. today announced that it will showcase its comprehensive suite of integrated digital medical imaging and data management solutions here at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR), April 27-30. The MEDxConnect™ System enables seamless integration of disparate data systems and provides users the freedom to select best of breed PACS, HIS/RIS, EMS and CIS tools, regardless of vendor.

Compressus' MEDxConnect System addresses the lack of communications inherent to traditional PACS implementations based on proprietary technologies and competitive pressures. This often forces medical facilities to settle for a sub-par solution with a single vendor providing all components or rely on stop gap measures to achieve common communications across all operational areas — many times in the form of moving personnel to follow the images from one workstation to another. The MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub, enabling various PACS, HIS, RIS and other data information systems to connect and communicate across the enterprise.

The integrated Digital Medical Imaging and data management solution from Compressus is designed to support a facility's current and expanded workload and provide an infrastructure for sustained growth. State-of-the-art technologies work together to build the functionality required for remote connectivity and enables users to access diagnostic images in the existing data stores at each facility, increasing the level of medical care while reducing the associated costs. This solution emphasizes the electronic collection and distribution of digital imaging data including: digital storage and transmission of imaging data, softcopy workstations for efficient interpretation by radiologists, automated voice interpretation for generation of reports and electronic and secure distribution via the web of images and reports to referring physicians. All components of this solution meet HIPAA privacy requirements.

The cornerstone of the system is the ConnectServer™ with robust, open-architected software that creates a virtual archive and database, enabling high speed enterprise wide data transfer from any acquisition device to any workstation. These DICOM diagnostic images can include angiography, cardiac ultrasound, intravascular ultrasound, as well as radiological images, and can all be viewed on the MEDxConnect diagnosticStation™ Workstation or MEDxConnect webStation, remote review solution.

Once a study is received at the ConnectServer, it is then available for prompt review by the radiologist, or for forwarding on to another specialist for a second opinion. Once stored, the images are accessible from any site in the client network and ultimately the authoritative version of the file is stored and protected on each facility's existing data stores. MEDxConnect users can manage their activities via a patient work list generated from multiple PACS or network systems, and route images to participating physicians based upon any combination of modality, body part, and/or referring physician. In addition, all physicians using MEDxConnect will immediately have the capability to create complete reports using the MEDxConnect voice recognition tools or existing voice transcription services and protocols used in connection with each facility's PACS/RIS system.

The company's image compression technology can support lossy and lossless compression, yet facilitate electronic image transmission in a fraction of the time compared to other technologies on the market. When retrieving an image from the ConnectServer, the MEDxConnect Workstation has the capability to dynamically adjust the compression ratio from lossless up to 20:1 based on what the radiologist believes is appropriate. The modality and desired compression ratio can be set automatically by user or adjusted manually.

"Compressus breaks vendor dependence to deliver connectivity and information solutions that can significantly increase practice performance and eliminate vendor dependency," said Janine Broda, vice president and general manager for Compressus Medical Solutions Division. "We are proud to offer solutions that truly bring the promise and power of PACS to users through tools that enable users to link disparate PACS and information systems across multiple locations and offer real connectivity for the first time."
